Silke Chambers’ childhood favorites were all the Oz books by L. Frank Baum and the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. Later, fictional heroes Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Miss Marple filled her imagination. Her favorite book remains The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Her love for reading grew into a love of writing, and she has won awards and published short stories through Writers’ Digest and local journals.
Her work as a nurse in a city hospital provides a wealth of opportunity to observe people at their best, and worst. She counts it a privilege to care for people as they endure challenging health issues—some who struggle under the weight of being constantly ill, others who rise with a strength they didn’t know they had. These experiences provide a basis for the study of human drama, and sometimes find their way into her stories.
Silke lives in northeast Ohio, where nothing happens except the predictable change of the seasons. She appreciates the support of her husband and two grown children, and the frequent (unsolicited) cuddles of Daisy and Lulu, cats who have found their way into her house and heart.
